There continues to be legislation almost annually around the country on gay and lesbian people having the right to marry. This is far from the only issue straight people raise with those who hold alternative lifestyles. Indeed, gay and lesbian citizens are often criticized for choosing a certain line of work or for wanting to raise children or share a home. In most instances, the majority straight public does not have an ethical leg to stand on.
Raising Children- There are no studies or indications that gay and lesbian couples make unfit parents. On the contrary, they are often viewed as very loving parents who appreciate the opportunity to impart some life wisdom on a child of their own. At a time when so many children are abused, neglected, starving, or even aborted, why would anyone deny a child the chance at a happy alternative lifestyle home, especially when the alternatives can be so dire?
Gays and Lesbians in the Workplace- The sexual orientation of a person has absolutely nothing to do with work performance. Indeed, gay and lesbian individuals are rarely denied employment just for their sexual preference but once they begin working, some people do report subtle harassment from co-workers due to sexual orientation. Regardless of sexual preference, any person who is hired and qualified to do a job should be given the same chance as anyone else to perform.
You should not have to hide who you are in order to raise a child or get the job you want. Remember to stand firm in your convictions and exhaust all possibilities to make your parenting and employment dreams come true.
