Being gay or lesbian is a life often fraught with difficult situations. Perhaps none is as difficult however as coming out to your parents with the news that you have same sex preferences. Some gay and lesbian people will lead a double life of sorts and act like they lead the life of a straight person when they are around parents. Evenlltuay however there comes a time when people want to reveal who they were born to be to both parents and the world as a whole. Here are a couple tips when coming out to your parents.

1.) Choose the right time to come out- There is a right time for everything of course and this includes a right time to come out to your family. If you think your parents might take the news hard then don’t bring it up when they are already stressed out. Choose a time when they are likely to take the news well.

2.) Explain to your parents this is about your happiness- When straight people give it a good think, they often come to the conclusion that people don’t choose to be gay or lesbian. Instead, they are born with the preference and it is near impossible to suppress. Tell your parents that you desire nothing more than to be yourself. You aren’t gay to ruin there lives. You are gay because that’s the way you were born.

The decision to come out to your parents and when to do it is not easy. However, you are likely to feel an enormous sense of relief when you do decide to come out.
