Technology is a double-edged sword; while in fact it offers many benefits and can drastically decrease cost for companies while simultaneously providing a more efficient process in manufacturing, it can also result in us becoming too dependent on having things done for us. Unfortunately, much of society does not take into account that becoming too dependent on technology and machinery performing daily tasks on a regular basis can be a bad thing.

This concept pertains especially to the various mobile devices and video games that everyone seemingly has their attention directed towards throughout all times of the day. Children growing up in this technologically based generation are being raised to accept that television and video games are an adequate way to spend utilizing for hours at a time.

While in fact what is done with free time is mostly subjective, society as a whole can suffer if a large enough demographic becomes too immersed in a specific aspect. The unfortunate fact lies in that the difficulties of the economy are requiring parents to work longer hours and spend more time away from home. Due to this fact, many rely on television and video games via the various mobile devices that are so widely used to keep their children busy while they rest.

This has nothing to do with parenting being good or bad; but more so with the demands of a society that forces individuals to evolve with the times. As technology becomes more available to the masses, and the economy continues to require parents to work longer hours simply to get by, this concept will only become more prevalent.
