Society is a very demanding entity. This concept is magnified by the current downturned economy, which is requiring families to become two income households, with both parents working long hours. This can be a problem on a number of different fronts, among the most prevalent being: increases in stress, deteriorating health and less time for family. The most alarming of these items that people feel is a large problem is the lack of time for family. Children do not have the relationship with their parents that they once had in previous generations; below is a list of a couple issues that contribute to this seemingly growing epidemic.
Entertainment Based Technology
Initially, some people might look at this potential issue and not consider it a negative thing. However, with the increase of entertainment based technology such as interactive video games and versatile mobile devices, society is becoming immersed in the digital world. Unfortunately, it is getting to the point where family members prefer to text each other from afar instead of talk face to face, or even over the phone. Additionally, children are growing up with video games and 3-D televisions as baby-sitters, which end up taking up hours of free-time when they get older.
Demanding Jobs
With the difficulties associated with the ailing economy, many parents are having to balance working long hours simply to make ends meet. Due to this fact, they are gone all day and exhausted when they get home, leaving little to no time for their children. This is becoming a growing trend and unfortuate necessity if people want to maintain being able to handle the rising cost of living.
